What’s in a Name?
His name is “JINKS” (as in high jinks) not Jinx (as in bad luck). Jinks doesn’t realize he’s a 3 legged dog. He believes he’s the Alpha, and though neutered, fancies himself quite the “ladies man”. He has a bionic nose and can detect the slightest crumb of food from nearly a mile away (kitchen counters are no obstacle). He insists on trying to hike a back leg to pee, which is very comical as long as you’re not in the firing line as he sprays everywhere. He runs and romps with his litter mate, Ziggy, and swims 10 – 20 times a day (only a slight exaggeration) mainly for the joy of having me dry him off. He loves to meet other dogs, and enjoys hanging out with our 2 pet chickens and our 2 cats.
Most people don’t realize he’s missing a leg until they’ve been around him for quite awhile, then they’ll ask in a disbelieving voice “does that dog only have 3 legs?” as if they’re still not sure.
Jinks has got a heart of gold, and BEAUTIFUL light brown eyes that offer comfort to anyone feeling blue. I think all 3 legged dogs are special, and so are the people who realize what wonderful pets they make.

Brody is late to join the contest- but thats because we just became his forever home. He’s been in foster nearly since he was born- and now, at 7 months we’ve made him an amazing addition to our family. He acts as if he was born with the three legs and LOVES to swim.

Brody was born approx. the beginning of Aug. 2008. Brody’s Mom is an AKC English Bulldog and his Dad is an AKC German Shepherd. He and his siblings were given away for free. He is a living example that there is no such thing as a free puppy…
Brody became in need of rescue after his front right leg was broken while in the care of his previous owner. His elbow and humorous were broken beyond repair.
Many different options were exhausted before amputation surgery was done on 12/3/08. Brody was up and walking that same day and back to his foster home after just one night at the vets.

Baby Jane was found walking down a Tennessee road. Her left front leg had been broken and never treated-her paw had healed backwards. She had been like that for some time and they could do nothing to fix it.
I found Baby Jane on petfinder.com last year. It was hard to tell that she was missing a leg in the photos-all I could focus on was her doggy grin.
I am constantly amazed by what she can do(but only with Styx. Seriously)

Ramone Strickland was hit by a car and left for dead. Nobody wanted him. They thought he actually was dead when they found him.
He was brought to the local Humane Society in Gulfport, Mississippi and was there for quite some time. Nobdoy wanted to or was able to adopt him.
When I met him, he captured my heart with his precious eyes and kind smile. I said that I wanted him immeidately.
If Ramone doesn’t get voted for, then that’s ok, because at least people will read about his story from this post.

All these dogs can teach us humans all a lesson about dealing with life as its handed to us and doing the best with what we have and not complaining.. I adopted my 2 pups from the rescue group that found and saved Hazel. Had I not had these 2 already I would have welcomed her into our house in a second, but she has wonderful new owners now, she’s a bright loving little baby who thinks the world is great and she has no disability and does not know what all the confusion is about. She would be great in this role and so young she is an easy learner and so willing to please.

There’s a great opportuinty here: the American-media-induced-public-relations-challenged “pit bull”, the puppy mill survivor, and currently adoptable dogs all could REALLY benefit from this contest if one of them were to win!! (the exposure to their cause probably wouldn’t hurt all that much either)
With all of the negative media attention that pitbulls receive, I think it is important to show the wonderful, loving side of these dogs that so many of us have come to love! There are so many great pits and pit mixes in shelters that need homes. This is a great opportunity to show what great pets pitbulls can be!!! Vote for Olivia!!!!
I voted for my dog Wit’l (my husband named her, it is his abbreviation for “with three legs”), but when I look through the photos I want to vote for every dog. They are all great. Some may be prettier, some may have great eyes or coats. A lot of these dogs already have a loving space. Mo and Torpedo do not. Out of all the dogs they are in the most danger of being overlooked. Black dogs are hard to place, as any shelter knows. Please consider “MO” and it sounds like Torpedo is just as needy. Love to them all, brave babies.
I would LOVE to see any of the pitbulls / pit-breeds become a ’star’ of a feel good movie, especially since so many people assume they are bad/mean dogs, when in reality, they are huge lovebugs! I think the they could really use some GOOD visibility. Pretty please???

I have the honor of knowing Lucky Lujan. This abused rescue dog had been through heck as a puppy, causing her to lose her front leg, yet she is the happiest, funniest, feistiest dog I ever met. She gives you a one-armed hug when she meets you, and knows how to play you when she wants something. Her owner gave her a second life when she rescued her, and she is the coolest dog I ever met. Good luck, Lucky! You were meant to be a star.

Please vote for Lucky Lujan, the New Yorker. At the age of 6 months, she was beaten and left to die in Jamaica, Queens. As a result she lost her front leg, from shoulder to paw. You will never find a dog as loving or as sweet with such determination as Miss Lucky. Someone very special rescued her and through all sorts of obstacles, they have survived. I am the proud grandmother of Lucky who was rescued by Gina.

Can this adorable dog catch a break !? First his ears, then his leg. He must be a street survivor. He isn’t a show dog, so the folks that lopped his ears off had other plans for him. This is Jake Maddox’s mom.. Jake was found in a ditch in January 09. His front leg was amputated because he had been shot three times! The pic is from two weeks post op, the day he got his stitches out. He now enjoys swimming, hiking and playing with the frisbee, just like any other dog. He is currently enrolled in classes to become a certified therapy dog. He is amazing and there isn’t anything he can’t do!

I know Cricket’s story. That could be a movie of its own. From being shot and left for dead…to almost being euthanized…to being rescued and having her leg amputated…to being treated by a wonderful rescue organization…to being shuttled to various, loving foster homes…to being adopted by a young family…the only thing that’s left to make this a great story is for Cricket to become SCRAP! Milly Dean reminds me of other _scrappy_ movie dogs, a characteristic I haven’t seen for a while, and which I kind of miss. Seems everyone’s going for “cute” or cuddly these days (stuffed animal tie-ins?), but in my memory the most memorable (and sellable) film characters are those with something quirky, odd, or even outcast about them. My vote goes to scrappy Milly Dean. She IS cute, her eyes look like they could penetrate my soul, and I can definitely see her as a dog with a plan.

Max – Max is the true testimate to a rescue dale and a dog who has had unfortunate events in his life. His owner, Connie, is a true attribute to all dog lovers in the world.
GO Cricket! I volunteer for the rescue group that rescued her and donated the vet work that took off that front leg. I feel close to this girl being the one who discovered her in a tiny rural shelter and working for her all the way. This girl still has bullets in her chest. Another shattered the missing leg. She was an 11th our rescue- about to be euthanized. She has so much LIFE and energy and is a beauty to boot! Catahoulas are also very smart so I bet she can do it! Go girl! *hugs*

Torpedo not only has 3 legs but is also deaf. He has been at the Humane Society of Western Montana for months, waiting for a forever-home. Torpedo hasn’t had the best luck in his life. The folks who surrendered him to HSWM owned him for 6 years, but they couldn’t keep him due to a move and their smaller home. They adopted him from a shelter in which he was an unwanted, abused (supposedly set on fire) dog who was a deaf amputee with a burned-off tail (thus, his cute, fast-waggin’ nubbin’!).
Torpedo has been in the shelter since January 2009.

Torpedo would be a perfect scrap, shelter dog with a burned off tail and three legs. He is still full of life and looking for a home.
They are all such wonderful looking dogs and hard to even begin to select from, however, after reading the proposed role of the dog I would narrow it down to:
Loki, Flair and YSA, these dogs are GREAT at rounding up people and other animals and bringing them together as a “pack”.
I have to be honest, since my dog is pictured here (Cricket), I’m partial to her, but ALL these dogs look great. As any owner of a “challenged” pet will tell you, they change your lives FOR THE BETTER. You look at them and can’t help but be moved by their courage, resilience and heart. They are inspirational. I know more than a few people who could learn a thing or two from them. Best of luck to ALL the dogs pictured here. In my eyes, they’re already stars.

Ironic! Just watched a movie about Huskys abandoned in the Antarctic and surviving for 140 days. What a wonderful breed. Strong, but gentle/loving. Magnificent animal. My vote is for Loki.

Loki Doyle looks like he was born to be a movie star. Those big, blue eyes melt my heart. What a charmer!! Although he looks like a wolf I believe he is actually a Husky, which IMO also would make him a terrific candidate because the breed is sooo intelligent and trainable!!

I vote for Loki Doyle. He is so loving, and gentle. He is a leader and a peacemaker. He doesn’t know he is missing a leg, so please don’t tell him. He can run as fast as most four legged dogs on the straight away, but can not turn as fast. He is so sweet and I never seen a bad picture of him. He just poses and looks great.

I think it should be Flare!! Even her coat matches the name “Scrap” with the merle markings. I think she would be perfect. Also, Border Collies are very smart and easy to train to do just about anything. Go Flare!!!
When Loki was dumped in the overnight bin of a shelter, he was emaciated – 42 pounds compared to his current healthy 58 – and weak with hook worms and whip worms. His fur was stiff and orange and the tops of his teeth are ground flat, perhaps from chewing on rocks or chains. Worst of all, somebody in his past obviously abused him. You wouldn’t know it from the happy, strong boy he is today! Just want to give a shout out to Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue, based in Indianapolis, for saving Loki!
Thank you to all the rescue workers reading this site. I am happy to see so many dogs whose luck has already turned around, and I hope the homeless guys find adopters soon!

Frankie, John Doe and Bradley look like “street dogs” to me and have very appealing eyes, but then I am used to South Auckland Street dogs, maybe Bruge street dogs are a little different, perhaps I need to visit and do some dog research, how bigs your budget.

I think Max the Airedale best fits what you are looking for. He has the eyes, the right type of hair and he is a rescue dog.
If you’re planning on casting against type, then perhaps, Loki, Max, and Indy are closer to what you want. It would be great if the high-class-looking pooch with the beautiful, soulful eyes could be a rescue dog. Still searching.
Max Versagi has quite a presence. If you ever meet him you’ll know what I mean. That boy dragged himself home in a snowstorm after busting his leg. He’s got heart!

Max (er, Scrap) is a wonderful dog who unfortunately only has three legs. But his giant heart and his wonderful personality more than make up for the loss of his limb.

When I first saw the photos and per your description of Scrap, I was drawn to that dog “that belongs to Amanda Cleland”. As you added photos, there were two others who jumped at me: Brilo Summers (might need to shorten her/his hair a little bit” and Max Versagi who’s sooo adorable! Praying that you find your perfect Scrap! I’ll be keeping an eye out on the progress as well as RTing your announcements on Twitter/FB so please keep me posted!

I love 3 legged dogs. When I rescued my Ysa from a shelter in L.A., and the Brentwood vet said it would be better for her if her leg was amputated, I didn’t hesitate. As someone mentioned above, she is faster than most dogs with 4 legs.
