The Seven…

28 Feb

Greed, gluttony, sloth, wrath, lust, envy and of course pride… what ever your choice of weapon, you can pick up your stone and throw it at me… The following is a true story of a lie I once told.

It was late one night in a Veterinary clinic at an undisclosed location…

I was tired and in surgery when the doorbell rang and there stood an Asian family holding in their arms their much loved family cat… it was dead. They wanted a special cremation, they wanted Ming Ming’s ashes in an urn so they could keep their cherished moggie on the mantle piece forever…

I put Ming Ming  in a body bag and popped him in the deep freeze for the “body man” to collect the next day. Here’s something you should know. There are two types of body bags… “Red” is for the much loved pet, for the owner who wants to keep a piece of their love forever. “Yellow” is for regular disposal; for the I will never see you again mass incineration…

Screw it! I can’t tell this story in seven sentences…Forgive me  for just one day”

Anyway I was tired, and I popped Ming Ming in a bag, filled out a form and thinking on the matter no further I went back to my surgery.

The next week there was a message in the book, Ming Ming’s owners were wanting to know the whereabouts of their much loved ashes. That got me thinking. Did I put Ming Ming in a red bag or a yellow bag? You know the more I thought about it…

To tell the truth or not to tell the truth?

I went to the freezer where Ming Ming was no longer, but in his place lay my saviour; a beaten up, stretched out, squashed flat, manky old stray tom. I popped this poor old brute in a red bag and I called  him Ming Ming.

So now in a house, in a living room, on the mantle piece in an undisclosed location… lie the ashes of a cat. But they do not belong to Ming Ming.  For there lies the remains of a manky old Tom cat that never received a day of love in his whole life; now cherished and loved forever…
