Once chance to kill the beast…

4 Jun

I have this dream… I am standing in a clearing with my rifle raised and the most terrifying beast is charging right towards me. I can see the saliva dripping off it’s teeth and the look of death raging in its yellow eyes… I have one bullet left in the gun.

There is only one moment, one chance to kill this beast. I must wait, I must wait until it is close enough to kill me, until I am close enough to kill him. I think this dream is a metaphor, an allegory for risk. It is tempting in life to not stand your ground and to turn and run, to bale out before you have faced your foe and to exit the game with a bullet still left in your gun.

Hold your ground, breathe easy… steady your aim and wait.
