Here is my pet hate… “people who grossly overestimate that value of ideas and grossly underestimate the value of technique and hard work.”
Ideas, my friends are FREE. Ever wondered why you can’t copyright or patent an idea? Because as good as yours is, it’s kind of arrogant to assume that someone else hasn’t already thought of it.
People often think that their particular story idea for a film has a huge amount of value, it feels new and original because it’s the FIRST time they thought of it, but that doesn’t mean that it’s unique or valuable in anyway.
The true value is found in the craft of turning an idea into something tangible. In film the true value is found in the writer who crafts the script, in the director who crafts the story and in the actor who crafts the character.
