It’s about winning not perservering…

I think we can learn a lot about life from sporting contests… I am thinking about this because I have just watched one of the great tennis matches of all time. A match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon lasted over eleven hours, the last set was finally one by Isner 70 games to 68.

What was fascinating to me was the response of Mahut at the end of this amazing game. He wasn’t content to have just been part of this incredible match, he didn’t simply wear his perseverance as a badge of honor… He was absolutely guttered to have lost.

He persevered for 11 hours because he wanted to win; perseverance is not an end in itself it is simply a necessary ingredient on the path to success.

One of these guys is very happy...
