The upside down philosophy of life…

14 Jul

If a man steals your coat give him your jacket as well. This has to be the crappiest piece of advice I have ever heard. It borders on lunacy, to give anything to a person who would steal from you? Who could that possibly help? Here’s the strangest thing… the person who it really helps is you.

It helps you because it frees you from the desire to have, to find your value in things that will rust and fade away. Everything we own is on loan anyway; the only way to see the world is upside down.

If a man steals your coat… he may be in distress, cold and hungry. So, giving him your jacket as well, whatever, makes you free as you value more his needs, the good you provide to him than something material. If someone steals because he is just dishonest… this is another story. No pity.

A man who steals because he is dishonest is perhaps the poorest man of all.
