Truth belies feelings and there in lies the conflict…

13 Jan

If you want to write any kind of drama, you need to understand this very basic human principle… ‘what a person feels is no indicator of the actual truth.” What do I mean?

We humans often believe lies, our hearts are wickedly deceptive beyond all else, maybe not your heart… but mine can definitely be tricky.  A person’s emotions move them to act, but because emotional truth is not “actual truth” they may cause us to behave in a way that promotes or instigates conflict. This conflict can be internal or external.

Internal Conflict is best defined as a character’s “Arc“; External Conflict is best defined as a character’s “Journey.”

What truly transcends is the innate understanding that every person is on a search (Goal) for the actual truth, that glorious moment when everything they feel lines up with everything that is actually true.
